1 cup rolled oats 4 oz. butter
¾ cup desiccated coconut 1 cup sugar
1 cup plain flour 2 tablespoons boiling water
1 ½ teaspoons bicarbonate of soda 1 tablespoon golden syrup


Combine rolled oats, sifted flour, sugar, and coconut.  Combine butter and golden syrup, stir over a gentle heat until melted (or melt in the microwave).  Mix soda with boiling water, add to melted butter mixture and stir into dry ingredients.  Spoon dessert spoonful’s of the mixture on to greased over trays; allow room for spreading.  Bake in a slow over 20 minutes.  Cool on trays.

During the First World War women in Australia baked these biscuits and sent them to the men fighting the war.
